In a stunning display of leadership, America’s approach to terrorism is finally getting the tough love it deserves. ISIS has reared its ugly head once again, and while the left continues to complain about every international action, a strong and determined national security administration under President Trump has already set things straight. It’s about time someone put terrorists in their place.
Trump Orders Airstrike in Somalia
For too long, the Biden administration’s lackluster policies and indecision have left America and its allies in harm’s way. The situation in Somalia had deteriorated under their watch, as the region quietly turned into a safe haven for ISIS terrorists. But President Trump wasted no time. Within days of returning to power, his national security team identified a growing threat and acted decisively. Unlike the previous administration’s misguided strategy of sending American troops back into harm’s way with no clear plan – a move reminiscent of the chaotic Black Hawk Down era – Trump opted for a surgical airstrike.
US Africa Command, the backbone of America’s commitment to global security, confirmed the operation stating, “In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, US Africa Command conducted airstrikes against ISIS-Somalia on Feb. 1, 2025. The command’s initial assessment is that multiple operatives were killed in the airstrikes, and no civilians were harmed.” This is the kind of precise, no-nonsense action that true patriots expect from their leaders.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth didn’t mince words when announcing the strike, declaring, “…The United States always stands ready to find and eliminate terrorists who threaten the United States and our allies…” And then came President Trump’s own emphatic message on Truth Social:
“These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies. The strikes destroyed the caves they live in and killed many terrorists without, in any way, harming civilians. Our Military has targeted this ISIS Attack Planner for years, but Biden and his cronies wouldn’t act quickly enough to get the job done. I did! The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that ‘WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!’”
Accompanying this declaration was a video that showcased the impressive strike against ISIS terrorists who had taken refuge in the formidable caves of Somalia’s Puntland state. This is a clear signal: America is no longer going to babysit those who hide behind bureaucracy and weak political maneuvering. If any terrorists survived – a very doubtful notion – they now know that Donald Trump’s resolve is as real as it gets.
It’s important to note that President Trump coordinated these crucial airstrikes with the Somali government. Somalia’s own President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed his gratitude in no uncertain terms: “The Federal Government of Somalia expresses its deep appreciation for the unwavering counterterrorism partnership of the United States in eliminating threats that seek to destabilize our nation and region.” In the same press release shared on X, he further explained, “The operation represents a critical step in our shared fight against terrorism, directly degrading ISIS’s leadership and operational capacity.” This cooperation between nations highlights how the Trump administration is not only protecting American citizens but also strengthening global security by working hand-in-glove with reliable partners.
The historical context cannot be overlooked. The United States’ previous involvement in Somalia – most notably the disastrous 1993 Battle of Mogadishu – is a stark reminder of what happens when America hesitates. As the Daily Caller put it, “The US military’s historic involvement in Somalia includes the costly 1993 Battle of Mogadishu of ‘Black Hawk Down’ infamy. US forces withdrew following the failed operation, contributing to additional instability in Somalia and giving space for extremist groups to gain power.” Clearly, President Trump is determined to avoid such missteps by acting with strength and precision.
Trump Executive Orders Put All Terrorists on Notice
On the domestic front, President Trump is equally relentless. On day three of his administration, he reversed the Biden administration’s feckless removal of the Iran-backed Houthi rebels from the Foreign Terrorist Organization List. The Executive Order (EO) firmly re-designated the Houthis as a terrorist organization – a decision that aligns with his unyielding commitment to American security. The EO boldly states, “Under President Trump, it is now the policy of the United States to cooperate with its regional partners to eliminate the Houthis’ capabilities and operations, deprive them of resources, and thereby end their attacks on U.S. personnel and civilians, US partners, and maritime shipping in the Red Sea.”
Furthermore, the EO lays down the law by ensuring that the US Agency for International Development severs ties with any organizations that have opposed efforts against the Houthis, going so far as to call out those “which have opposed international efforts to counter the Houthis while turning a blind eye towards the Houthis’ terrorism and abuses.” This is a clear message: under President Trump, any entity that dares to challenge America’s commitment to defeating terrorism will be dealt with swiftly and decisively.
Recent remarks by the new Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, leave little room for doubt. The United States’ foreign and national security policy will prioritize American interests above all. With the airstrike on the ISIS enclave in Somalia and the decisive Executive Orders targeting terrorist organizations, the Trump administration has sent a resounding message: terrorist groups, be they ISIS, the Houthis, al Qaeda, or Iran proxies, are now squarely under the gun.
