Rubio Undergoes Intense Questioning in Latest CNN Interview

In a recent episode of CNN’s “State of the Union,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and host Dana Bash engaged in a thought-provoking discussion. The conversation revolved around the long-standing narrative, propagated by Democrats and media activists for nearly ten years, that portrays former President Donald Trump as an authoritarian figure who would unconstitutionally seize dictatorial power and dismantle American democracy if re-elected.

Rubio, however, did not waver in the face of this scare tactic. Armed with a historical perspective, he refuted the unfounded idea that Trump’s potential return to presidency would be a threat to our democratic principles.

When Bash mentioned the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity, suggesting it allows the president too much power beyond constitutional limits, Rubio was swift to respond. He clarified that such a ruling was necessitated by the perceived misuse of the Justice Department against Trump – a point that seemed to irritate some, prompting Bash to jump to President Joe Biden’s defense.

Bash argued that Trump has threatened to target Joe Biden and his family – an action she asserted Biden has never reciprocated. But Rubio was prepared with a rebuttal:

“Donald Trump has said that — no, he hasn’t. I watched the debate … and he was asked, and he said, ‘My vengeance will be winning and restoring America — making America great again.’ He has repeatedly stated that his revenge will be to make America great again, to undo all [of the Biden administration’s] disastrous public policies.”

Rubio then offered a historical fact that counters the assertion of Trump transforming into a fascist dictator if re-elected.

“By the way, he was president for four years. He didn’t go after Hillary Clinton. He didn’t go after Joe Biden. He didn’t go after Barack Obama. He didn’t go after any of their consultants,” Rubio highlighted. “We didn’t see under him what we’re seeing now.”

Despite this, Bash continued to press Rubio for an assurance that Trump would not target Democrats or political rivals if re-elected. Rubio’s response was resolute:

“Yes, he was president before, and he didn’t do it then. He’s already said that he wouldn’t do that. He will be too busy undoing all the damage of this disastrous presidency.”

Rubio also pointed out that during Trump’s tenure from 2017–2021, no leading Democrat was “chased around, persecuted, prosecuted,” providing a clear contrast with the actions of the current administration.
