Donald Trump seems to have taken up permanent residence in Robert De Niro’s mind. This summer, De Niro made headlines with a public outburst expressing his disdain for Trump. Following his emotional tirade, he faced a chorus of heckles from Trump supporters, which might have been a wake-up call for him. Yet, it appears he has not learned from that experience.
Recently, during a Q&A session about the new film *Megalopolis*, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, De Niro couldn’t keep his focus solely on the movie. Instead, he veered off-topic to discuss Trump and the upcoming election. This behavior is a textbook example of what many are calling Trump Derangement Syndrome—where individuals find themselves unable to resist bringing up Trump, regardless of the subject at hand.
According to an article from Breitbart News, even as Coppola attempted to steer the conversation back to his film’s themes of urban decline and rebirth, De Niro took the opportunity to express his concerns about the political landscape. He stated, “I’m worried. I see the things in Francis’ film about that, parallels and so on. To me, it’s not over until it’s over, and we have to go at this wholeheartedly to beat the Republicans — those Republicans, they’re not real Republicans. Beat Trump. It’s that simple. We cannot have that type of person running this country. Everybody has to get out there and vote, and we have to make it very clear what America is.”
In the video from the event, which starts at the 27:00 mark, you can see De Niro’s comments unfold. While he received some applause from the audience—a crowd likely filled with fans who share his views—it raises questions about whether such sentiments resonate beyond that particular setting.
As we approach November and the presidential election looms closer, one can’t help but wonder how De Niro will react if Trump emerges victorious once again. The stakes are high in this charged political atmosphere, and reactions could become even more intense.
