Obama’s Liberal Rant: An Outburst of Hypocrisy at Hamilton College

In a spectacle that can only be described as classic liberal theatrics, former President Barack Obama took the stage at Hamilton College this week. His remarks—full of righteous indignation against actions taken by the Trump administration—have left conservative audiences seething. While Obama decried the policies of a president he once vehemently opposed, many on the right see nothing more than a predictable, self-serving outburst from a man long removed from the actual governing of our country.

During his address, the former president warned that recent actions by President Donald Trump and his team “undermine the core values that bind Americans together.” But for those of us who value consistency, it’s hard to ignore how conveniently Obama’s tirade mirrors the very narratives he promoted during his own time in office. His repeated focus on law firms, lawyers, and media outlets appears, to an angry Republican, as a smokescreen to distract from real issues and his personal political legacy.

Obama’s criticism was aimed squarely at controversial executive orders—orders that, according to NBC News, have penalized significant legal institutions and provoked a backlash within the legal community. In his view, these actions are nothing short of un-American. Yet, it’s worth asking: would the same tactics be tolerated if a true conservative leader had ever considered them? The answer, as many staunch Republicans believe, is a resounding no.

Former President Barack Obama said he is “deeply concerned” with some of the actions that President Donald Trump and his administration have taken and seemed to call out the Republican Party for not pushing back on them…

Obama said he’s more troubled by a White House that takes aim at law firms that represent ideas or parties that its occupants disagree with, and that the administration has punished media outlets. Trump has signed executive orders penalizing major law firms and lawyers, prompting outrage within the legal community. The White House has also barred The Associated Press from coverage over its refusal to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.

“That kind of behavior is contrary to the basic compact we have as Americans,” he said.

Obama suggested that Republicans would be outraged if I had done similar things as president.

“Imagine if I had pulled Fox News’ credentials from the White House press corps,” he said, adding, “It’s unimaginable that the same parties that are silent now would have tolerated behavior like that from me or a whole bunch of my predecessors.”

For those of us who believe in holding leaders accountable, it’s hard not to see the irony in Obama’s words. His choice to single out actions that he claims are “un-American” rings hollow when considering the liberal double standards that have long plagued his political camp. After all, why would any self-respecting Republican ever contemplate pulling a similar stunt?

As the event unfolded, Twitter/X lit up with reactions from passionate conservatives. These tweets not only resurrected memories of past controversies but also underscored an enduring frustration with what many see as perpetual hypocrisy on the liberal side.

Obama’s performance at Hamilton College is a reminder that the liberal establishment continues to rely on theatrics to drive its narrative—even when it means ignoring inconvenient truths about their own standards. For many conservative Americans, this moment is yet another example of how the left’s selective outrage only serves its own agenda. Real patriotism, after all, is about unwavering principles rather than opportunistic performances.
