Conservatives can build a strong case against Vice President Kamala Harris, as long as they avoid scandalous insinuations and properly contextualize the issue.
This past Sunday, The San Francisco Standard reported that Willie Brown, the former Mayor of San Francisco, surprisingly endorsed Harris to succeed President Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee during an impromptu press conference outside a restaurant.
Frankly speaking, Harris could have done without Brown’s endorsement.
The mainstream media is likely to ignore significant details about his past relationship with the vice president. The Standard merely mentioned that Brown “dated Harris when she was an Alameda County prosecutor in the mid-1990s.”

However, the reality extends beyond mere dating.
A 2019 profile in Politico Magazine disclosed that San Francisco newspapers began mentioning Harris in 1994. One columnist noted that actor Clint Eastwood had accidentally spilled champagne on Brown’s “new steady,” who happened to be Harris, then only 29 years old.
Soon enough, her romantic relationship with Brown proved advantageous. Politico reported that “Harris had dated Brown, who was investigated by the FBI when he was speaker of the California Assembly and as mayor was dogged by conflict of interest, and she had benefited from his political patronage.”
Indeed, “As the speaker of the state Assembly, Brown had appointed Harris to well-paid positions on the California Medical Assistance Commission and Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board.”
In addition, “As mayor of San Francisco in 2003, Brown supported her district attorney campaign even though they were no longer together. Critics — including her opponents — cried foul over cronyism at City Hall.”
In essence, Harris, a young woman of 29, was romantically involved with an older man who granted her government roles and later found himself under federal investigation.
As we’ve witnessed in recent years, federal investigations do not necessarily denote guilt. Therefore, any insinuation of impropriety is less significant than how Harris launched her political career.
Conservative commentator Matt Walsh spotlighted this aspect of Harris’ past on Sunday.
“Kamala Harris got her start in politics by sleeping with Willie Brown,” Walsh stated in a post on X.
“She’s made a career out of begging for hand outs from powerful men. A thoroughly unimpressive human being,” he continued.

However, Naomi Wolf, a former liberal who has seen the light thanks to the establishment’s authoritarian COVID-19 policies, cautioned conservatives against focusing on Harris’ sexual past.
“This kind of sexist take from Republican men will not play well. Swing voters who are women are up for grabs, the Trump/Vance ticket needs them, and ‘she slept her way to the top’ just repels many women and is not an argument,” she wrote in response to Walsh.

While Walsh raises several valid points about Harris’ ascent, Republicans would do well to heed Wolf’s advice.
In summary, Harris’ romantic involvement with Brown underscores the fact that she has spent her career amassing unearned power. Her sudden elevation to the top of the Democratic ticket is merely the latest example.
Voters may not be concerned about whom Harris dated three decades ago. However, they should care that every time she speaks, she reveals herself as unworthy of the power she wields.
The Brown story serves as a reminder to voters of who she is and how her “thoroughly unimpressive” career began.
Consequently, his endorsement was the last thing she needed.
