The New York Times’ Bias: A Smear Against Accountability

The mainstream media continues to show its true colors. Once again, The New York Times has proven that it cares more about crafting a narrative than holding our leaders accountable. This recent puff piece on former President Joe Biden’s use of an autopen to issue pardons and commutations is a perfect example of how the media feeds the liberal agenda—protecting one party while vilifying the other.

The article conveniently leaves out the critical voices of Republican leaders and legal experts who would have said exactly what needs to be said about Biden’s questionable actions. Political analyst Mark Halperin nailed it when he said, “I thought Joe Biden was pretty good in the interview, but if the shoe were on the other foot, I can’t believe The New York Times wouldn’t have gone and gotten [Democratic California Sen.] Adam Schiff’s reaction.” He didn’t stop there, explaining further that “There’s no Republican reaction in that story. There’s no legal expert quoted in the story.”

This isn’t a subtle oversight—it’s a glaring double standard. When President Biden used an autopen, the Times helped him cover up his failure to personally vet every pardon. They allowed him to boast that he “made every decision” even as he delegated the actual signing process. The omission of any serious legal critique or Republican perspective underlines the biased nature of their scrutiny.

Imagine if President Trump had been in the same situation. It’s almost laughable how the paper would transform overnight. Every misstep would be in the spotlight, with a flood of outrage from heated Democrats and legal experts demanding accountability. Instead, the media behaves as if Biden’s actions are acceptable and routine.

In one particularly revealing moment, Biden was allowed to describe his actions in a way that makes him seem like a benevolent leader. The Times even included a soft interview where he tried to spin his decision as simply protecting his family from Trump’s “vindictive” Justice Department. “Everybody knows how vindictive he is, so we knew that they’d do what they’re doing now,” Biden whined, framing his controversial moves—including the pardon for his son Hunter—as necessary and beyond reproach. The narrative is thin, and yet, it’s paraded as if it were rock-solid journalism.

Even more damning is the fact that Biden personally signed only one pardon—Hunter’s—while employing an autopen for dozens of others. While The New York Times did mention that his staff secured his verbal nod for each use, this half-hearted process falls profoundly short of the transparency and rigor our great nation deserves from its highest office. When a president is expected to lead by example, delegating his responsibility without sufficient oversight screams negligence.

Compare this to the way President Trump was treated. Every tweet, every decision was dissected by the liberal media down to the minutest detail. No misstep was left unchallenged, and every action was met with a barrage of criticism from Democrats and left-leaning legal experts. The same actions by Biden, however, were cushioned by deliberate oversight—a fact that tells you everything about the bias running rampant in today’s media.

This pattern of behavior is exactly why many Americans have lost trust in the mainstream media. Instead of reporting news objectively, they are busy crafting narratives to shield their chosen politicians and further their own agendas. If The New York Times really cared about journalism, it would have taken a harder look at Biden’s actions, demanding accountability rather than acting as his personal public relations team.
