Facebooks’s Election Interference: Trump Interview Blocked, Then ‘Unblocked

It’s official: Facebook and its parent company, Meta, are at it again. In what’s become an all-too-familiar trend, they temporarily blocked users from sharing a recent interview featuring former President Donald Trump on OutKick’s Maintaining With Tyrus. It’s no surprise that this blatant censorship happened as the 2024 election looms and Trump is leading in nearly every poll.

Let’s get one thing clear: this was not an isolated incident, nor was it a mere technical error, as Meta claims. The block was only lifted after OutKick received complaints from users all over the country, who were unable to share the link to Trump’s interview, receiving the infamous “Your content couldn’t be shared because this goes against our Community Standards” message.

The “Error” That Wasn’t Just a Glitch

OutKick, to its credit, didn’t take this censorship lying down. They contacted Meta for an explanation, and as usual, Meta provided the same tired excuse: a “technical error” caused by issues with third-party URL shorteners. But let’s call it what it is: an attempt to suppress conservative voices, especially Trump’s, just weeks before the most critical election in recent history.

What’s even more suspicious is that OutKick insisted they never used a third-party URL shortener in the first place. So, what gives, Meta? We’re supposed to believe that a platform capable of advanced AI, endless algorithms, and intricate content moderation can’t manage simple URL sharing without “errors”? The same errors that conveniently affect Trump-related content but not interviews with Kamala Harris or other left-wing figures? Give me a break.

Facebook’s History of Election-Time Interference

This isn’t the first time Facebook has engaged in this type of behavior. Just look back to 2020. Facebook slashed the reach of OutKick and other conservative outlets after interviews with Trump, significantly cutting off the public’s access to viewpoints that challenge the mainstream narrative. This move resulted in severe financial damage for independent outlets trying to compete with the media giants.

And now, with 2024 approaching, we’re seeing more of the same. Facebook’s actions seem coordinated, not coincidental. In the past, Meta has admitted to yielding to pressure from the Biden-Harris administration to censor content related to COVID. Now, they appear to be pulling out all the stops to limit Trump’s reach as he surges in the polls.

Desperate Times for the Left

Why the sudden rush to suppress Trump? Simple: desperation. Trump is leading in most polls, and the Democrats are scrambling to do everything they can to keep him out of sight and out of mind. When even the left’s mainstream media outlets are struggling to prop up Kamala Harris as a viable candidate, it makes sense that Big Tech would step in to try to shield her from scrutiny while burying Trump.

If you need more proof of this desperation, just look at Meta’s selective enforcement. After the controversy with OutKick, another Trump interview with Clay Travis during the Alabama-Georgia game faced the same restriction. It was unblocked only after Meta was again confronted about it. Meanwhile, attempts to share interviews with Harris, whether on Call Her Daddy or any other platform, faced no such “errors.” This selective censorship is nothing short of totalitarian.

What’s Really at Stake

This type of censorship goes beyond just stifling Trump. It’s a direct attack on your right to hear alternative viewpoints and make informed decisions at the ballot box. When social media giants are allowed to control what information is visible, they essentially control public discourse. This kind of meddling is exactly what our Founders feared when they warned about concentrated power. It’s dangerous, undemocratic, and completely unacceptable.

The American people deserve transparency, not manipulation. Mark Zuckerberg has claimed that Meta’s goal is to be neutral, but it’s clear from incidents like this that they’re far from it. The repeated interference in the political process, especially during elections, undermines our democracy and distorts the marketplace of ideas.

Final Thoughts

Meta and Facebook’s actions show that they are more interested in protecting one side of the political spectrum than in fostering free speech. The fact that Trump’s interview with OutKick faced immediate blocks while Harris’s didn’t is no accident—it’s a deliberate choice.

The 2024 election will determine more than just who sits in the White House; it will decide whether or not the American people can trust their voices to be heard without interference from Silicon Valley elites. It’s time to demand answers from Meta, and more importantly, to hold them accountable. The fight for free speech is a fight for the very soul of this nation.
